John Wright
The Westcott Gallery is proud to mount an exhibition for the talented artist John Wright. His One Man Show will amaze and enliven the senses through his brilliant use of colour and form.
Based in Surrey, John Wright is one of the most bold and daring artists to have exhibited with the Westcott Gallery and has also had many successes internationally, not only with his art but with his photography in Time Life Magazine. Although he grew up in Scotland, John has also been inspired and influenced by the vibrancy of everyday Mexican colours and shades, which are alien to the Scottish palette and temperament.
In the 1950’s, John studied at the Glasgow School of Art, then continued his studies at the University of Athens in Greece and went on to complete his degree at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, USA.
From the 1980’s until 2004, John exhibited his works at La Galeria, Quito Ecuador, San Ignacio Gallery Santiago, Chile and Club Industrales de Jalaisco, Mexico to name a few.
Prior to concentrating on his painting, John had lived in the Amazon and dwelled with the natives, experiencing primitive life and fascinating surroundings. During his time there, he had the opportunity to capture Amazon life through photography. John works have been published in:
* “Jungle Nomads of Ecuador“ (Time Life Books) 1982 * “Saint Among Savage” (Collins) 1980 * “Archaeological Catalogue” (400 pieces) * Banco Del Pacifico Museum, Guayaquil, Ecuador 1982Until two years ago, John lived and painted in Mexico. Mexico introduced him to new forms and combinations of colour; for example walking down a street he would be startled by a deep purple Bougainvillea trailing down a bright yellow wall, or by a blue house with emerald coloured windows and doors.
John Wright’s work is continuing to expand rapidly and has developed spectacularly through his encounters within the Amazon and in Mexico.
The Exhibition will be held at The Westcott Gallery on Friday 1st June 2007 – Saturday 16th June 2007.
