Elizabeth Calthorpe

Elizabeth Calthorpe SEA is well collected around the country. Her mastery of Gouache is evident in the paintings on display today. Based in Guildford, she has exhibited with us on many occasions, including a “One Man Show” in 1997.

Elizabeth trained at Elmhurst Ballet School, Camberley, before starting a full time acting career. After several years in Repertory Companies and touring the country, she married and started painting.

Her first West End exhibition was in 1992 and her works have been exhibited by the Societies of Wildlife Artists and Women’s Artists. She is a Member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and shows regularly in their annual exhibitions at Christies, St James’s, as well as in galleries in Surrey, London and Hampshire.

Originally working in oils, she soon discovered the joys of gouache and pen and wash. Her work covers most subjects – animals, land and seascapes, beach scenes and so on, and she sketches the pupils at work and play at a local kindergarten and the Yehudi Menuhin School of Music.
