Helena Broone
Helena Broome, born in 1969, is a painter in oils working in the Classical Realist tradition. She undertook her formal training in Florence, where she was taught the techniques of the Old Masters. Whilst there, she exhibited at the British Institute of Florence, as well as at the Studio itself.
Helena has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, Bonham and Feely in London, the Wren Gallery, the Florence Academy of Art and, of course, the Westcott Gallery itself. She has also sold a number of her works in the USA.
Landscape
Since it is the natural world most of all which inspires Helena, she finds landscape work extremely satisfying. Challenging, too, as it presents problems that all landscape artists must face, those of the quality of light and the unpredictability of nature’s elements. A location, a natural feature or a particular light effect, captured in a landscape painting, can evoke both personal reminiscence and, often, profound inspiration.
Still Life
With her training in the Classical tradition, it is not surprising that Helena’s still life work has an affinity to the Old Masters. Her selection and portrayal of everyday objects, involving her continuous exploration into light, colour and texture, gives her work a distinct tactile quality of its own.
